Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach
Here at Do the Green Thing we’re not massive fans of the consumer lifestyle but we’re taking you to a supermarket with a difference. The shelves of the Tru-Cost Super M-Art are lined with the morphed shapes and broken fragments of plastics found washed up on beaches in Devon and Cornwall. Quirky labels adorn the items on show, advertising Bang Tidy!!! cleaning products and Get Lucky bags: ‘A mystery selection found in less than 5 minutes’. This subversive convenience store has been set up by two Brighton based artists Lou McCurdy and Chloe Hanks of Dirty Beach as a reminder that the life of a plastic bottle is not over once we throw it away.
The exhibition has just gone on tour at Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park in Cornwall and will run up until the 13th August.
Reduce and reuse plastics, then recycle them and keep our beaches tidy.
