In many ways, society was transformed by the advent of the light bulb. Body-clocks readjusted to the artificial suns found in almost every room, all-nighters for fun or for last minute exam induced panic were facilitated, daily activities are no longer at the mercy of the sun.
Life as we know it is inextricably linked to the lightbulb, and yet it comes at a significant cost to the planet, as well as our vitamin D levels. Every time you switch on your run-of-the-mill bulb, 90% of the energy used to expound the light is wasted through heat.
Climate change is a people problem that is both caused by and affects people. Remembering to turn off the light or only using it when needed is a small action with huge impacts.
