Old Is The New New by Siobhan Keam

The world is buckling under the sheer amount of ‘stuff’ we have. Throwaway culture, countless seasonal sales and incredibly cheap produce all have a part to play. Transporting this “stuff” to our doorsteps – and then to landfills when they are tossed aside – uses huge amounts of fossil fuels, creating a lasting impact on our planet.

So why not use what you already have to make something new?

This poster is made from existing Do The Green Thing posters. Instead of creating a whole new poster from scratch, I decided to use what was already there. Each line is from a different pre-existing poster, and they spell out the message: “Make more and buy less. Just use the things you have.”

It’s a poster made out of posters. It’s a reminder to work with what you already have, and practice creative recycling.

What you can do

So many of us have more than we need. Instead of throwing things away and buying more, use what you have differently. Sometimes the most creative solutions come from working within limitations – try it, you might be surprised with what you come up with.
