Paper Record Player by Simon Elvins

Everyday Things for Earth Hour day 6, London-based graphic designer Simon Elvins has created a functioning record player made completely from paper, here’s how.

“The Paper Record Player came out of an attempt to marry sound with the printed page and to bring back some of the magic of listening to recorded music. As technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated it’s often difficult to comprehend what is happening beneath the surface. Using everyday materials and the simplest means possible intends to make sound more tangible and demystify what technology often hides from us.

The Paper Record Player is made entirely of paper and card, stripping what was needed to make a turntable to it’s essential parts. All the parts were then carefully assembled, simply by folding and gluing them into place.”
