If you have the chance to build your own house, there are so many eco friendly and green things you can do. In every aspect of the home you can save money and resources. We put insulation in our basement floor before the concrete was poured and save a lot on heat. Energy efficient furnaces, water heaters, windows, doors. If you do the right research and choose an experienced contractor who knows about eco solutions when building a home you can save a lot of money in the long run.

Even fixing up your house now; replacing windows and doors, insulation, high efficiency furnace, plumbing, can make an amazing difference. Investing money now will help in the future.

Every year on Christmas day, when everyone has opened their presents and are playing with their new toys, you'll find me in a pile of wrapping paper and bags carefully finding every salvageable piece of tissue, wrapping paper, bag or box. I fold all of the paper and put it into gift bags and take it home for next year. I do the same for birthdays. I haven't spent any money on wrapping in over 10 years!

If you aren't up for sorting through, most of the wrapping paper is recyclable. So encourage your family and friends to save that festive wrapping from the garbage dump!

Happy Holidays!
